Camp Create: Summer Art Camps for Kids!
If you love the arts, AGG is the place to be this summer! Budding artists will get creative at AGG’s week-long art camps, exploring a variety of materials and techniques to create masterpieces that will be shown off at weekly mini art openings. AGG’s summer art camp provides children ages 7 – 12 with the opportunity to experience creativity and innovation in a unique and transformative setting that combines a world class art collection and rich natural surroundings. Each week is unique – select one or more!
Camp Create: Summer 2017 is a series of five week-long summer camp programs that run daily from 9 am to 4 pm at AGG:
Week 1 (July 4 – 7): Paint the Moon
Uncover the realm of painting and beyond! Channel your inner Van Gogh and explore landscape, portrait, mural and process painting using different techniques and styles. Then take your painting to the extreme as we paint in and on AGG’s outdoor Inflatable Gallery and the University of Guelph cannon, and dress the Bear! (four days/$200)
Week 2 (July 10 – 14): Handmade: Hands-on making and crafting
For kids who love hands-on activities! Making and crafting techniques will be used in the creation of a range of DIY projects. Experiment with printmaking techniques like block printing to design your own T-shirt, create an original textile, design your own architectural space, make customized buttons, and more! With all your new crafting techniques, end the week by creating a one-of-a-kind outfit to dress the Bear!
Week 3 (July 17 – 21): Snap! Image-making for budding photographers
Equipped with your very own digital camera for the week, learn how to snap photos like the pros! Explore image-making techniques, traditional photography processes, photograms, stage your very own photoshoot, and more!
Week 4 (July 24 – 28): Cartoon Nation – Art and Animation
Bring your favourite character to life, or create one from your imagination, as we embark on designing comic strips, graphic novels and making a stop-motion animated film with clay characters! We will turn your characters into a life-sized comic strip on AGG’s Inflatable Gallery.
Week 5 (July 31 – August 4): Eco Explorers: Art and Environment
Join us for a week of exploration and creation in response to nature. Hikes and walking tours of areas near the Art Gallery of Guelph will inspire drawing, photography, sculpture and painting, touching on ideas of ecology, landscape and mapping. Create collections and collages and make your own personal treasure map of the Sculpture Park!
We welcome children with little or no art making experience! Children slightly above the age range are welcome to join with the understanding that lessons are geared towards the posted ages, but we ask that parents respect the minimum age limit.
