Winter Season Opening Reception | Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 7 pm
Please join us for the opening reception launching our winter exhibitions – 150 Acts: Art, Activism, Impact II, Common Collective: Land/Line, and Shelley Niro: ONGNIAAHRA/Niagara
150 Acts: Art, Activism, Impact II (January 17 – February 18, 2018)
The AGG introduces part two of 150 Acts: Art, Activism, Impact with the addition of works by artists Shuvinai Ashoona, Meryl McMaster, Shelley Niro, Jessie Oonark, Pudlo Pudlat and Jeff Thomas. Further works by Anique Jordan and Abedar Kamgari bring into the dialogue the experiences and histories of artists and communities forced into migration through legacies of conflict and colonialism.
Common Collective: Land/Line (January 17 – April 29, 2018)
With urban encroachment, farmland in Ontario has dropped by 1.6 million acres since 1991, while the population has grown by 3.5 million. With Land/Line, the Stratford-based Common Collective presents an interactive installation that combines new media and analog technologies to explore social and environmental changes witnessed in rural environments in Ontario over the past half-century.
Shelley Niro: ONGNIAAHRA/Niagara (January 13 – February 25, 2018, Boarding House Gallery)
Shelley Niro’s exhibition marks the beginning of her 2018 creative residency with the Art Gallery of Guelph and Musagetes Foundation, emerging from Niro’s engagement with the AGG’s extensive collection of historic Haudenosaunee beadwork.
All welcome; free admission.
