School Programs
AGG welcomes learners of all ages and stages for facilitated exhibition tours and lively discussion. Tours are ideal for teachers looking for a field trip to complement in-class learning or community groups interested learning more about visual literacy and contemporary art.
The gallery’s tour programs deliver a unique opportunity to learn from exposure to original works of art within the gallery context, providing an enriching educational and community building experiences, while promoting the enjoyment and understanding of artistic practices and contemporary culture.
Winter 2024

Tour Program
1-hour program, costs $2 per student; maximum 60 students or two classes per booking. Suitable for all grade levels. Can be combined with Sculpture Park Scavenger Hunt program.
AGG exhibition tours are an opportunity to develop visual literacy skills and explore discussions about contemporary culture through the lens of a diverse range of artistic practices and mediums. Through lively and age-appropriate discussion and in-gallery activities, tours aim to build a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and languages through art; expand global awareness, knowledge, and perspectives; examine global issues from the perspectives of those who identify as Black, Indigenous and persons of colour; develop visual acuity while highlighting the interdisciplinary connections between art and other forms of knowledge and communication; and encourage creative expression and critical thinking.
Tour + Workshop Program
2-hour program, $7 per student; maximum 30 students or one class per booking.
Following a tour of the current exhibitions, students will participate in a hands-on art making workshop. Students will have the opportunity to share the inspiration for their art-making and take home their finished projects.
Sculpture Park Scavenger Hunt Program
1-hour program, costs $2 per student; maximum 60 students or two classes per booking. Suitable for all grade levels. Can be combined with Tour program.
Students are given an introduction to the role that art plays in activating our imaginations and curiosities in public spaces. With a focus on fostering slow, deep looking strategies, the Sculpture Park Scavenger Hunt is a fun and interactive way to encourage student exploration of a wide range of ideas and artistic media, understanding cartographic strategies and mapping, and learning about the elements and principals of art. Facilitators will then lead students through a series of guided reflection activities in response to what they discovered in the Sculpture Park.
Curating 101
1-hour program, costs $4 per student; maximum 30 students or one classes per booking. Suitable for secondary school students. Can be combined with Tour program.
Curating 101 introduces secondary students to the practices of curating and exhibition-making and to how art and ideas are organized in the process. Using the exhibitions on view for reference and the gallery’s collection as their materials, Curating 101 engages students in visual interpretation as well as group work, dialogue, and collective decision-making.
Reservations
Advanced registration is required for guided tours. To book your guided tour, please contact info@artgalleryofguelph.ca or 519-837–0010 x2. Please provide the following information when requesting a tour:
- School or affiliated group, if applicable
- Number of participants
- Grade level or age range of participants
- Any accessibility considerations
- Preferred time of day and day of week. To facilitate booking, please provide up to three options.
Self-guided visits are welcome, but advance notice is recommended for groups of 15 or more to avoid conflicts with other groups.
Cost
- $2 per student for subsidized School Tour and Sculpture Park Scavenger Hunt visits from the Upper Grand District School Board and Wellington Catholic School Board.
- $7 per student for subsidized School Tour + Workshop visits from the Upper Grand District School Board and Wellington Catholic School Board.
- $4 per student for subsidized Curating 101 visits from the Upper Grand District School Board and Wellington Catholic School Board.
- $5 per person for community groups.
Educators are responsible for student supervision: all educators and supervisory volunteers are welcome at no additional cost
School Program Details
Hours: Guided tours may be scheduled Tuesday to Friday between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. Weekend and evening tours are available by special request.
Parking: Free parking is available at the AGG for gallery visitors. Buses may drop-off and park in the AGG parking lot.
Accessibility: The Art Gallery of Guelph is a partially accessible facility. All exhibition spaces and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
There is a ramp leading to the front door from the parking lot and an elevator to access all floors and facilities. Wheelchair accessible washrooms are on the basement level with elevator access.
