Join the AGG Volunteer Association as they welcome Guelph-based artist Lyn Westfall for a talk and presentation on November 21 at 2 pm. Offering insight into sources of creative inspiration, Westfall will tell the story of how a chance encounter with the well-known children’s book, L’Histoire de Babar, le petit elephant by Jean De Brunhoff, led her to her father’s war story. Flight Sergeant Wilfrid W. Laver, RCAF, died during World War II at the age of 23 when his Wellington Bomber disappeared during a night sortie while flying over Germany. As Lyn was only three months old, her father never had the opportunity to meet her.

Decades later, the children’s book initiated a lifelong quest for information about her father and sparked a visual narrative that Westfall recounts in a series of paintings: My War Story I and My War Story II.
