Calling all Guelph artists!
Artists in the community are invited to submit up to three artworks for consideration for possible inclusion in 155,578, the Art Gallery of Guelph’s 2025 summer exhibition. Taking its title from Guelph’s estimated population, the exhibition also references Lucy Lippard’s “numbers shows,” a series of place-based exhibitions she curated between 1969 and 1974, that each took the population of the city in which it was shown as a title.
Rooted in the local, the exhibition seeks to highlight the diverse ideas, voices, and perspectives emerging within the community today. Aimed at capturing the pulse of the city at this moment, this open call is also an opportunity for the gallery’s new Curator of Contemporary Art, Erin Szikora, to gain insight into the emerging narratives and images that define this moment in Guelph’s cultural trajectory.
Submission details:
- Submissions are due by March 27, 2025 at 11:59 PM via this form. Alternatively, a fillable PDF is available here and can be emailed to info@artgalleryofguelph.ca upon completion, along with relevant images.
- Artists will receive notification of decisions by April 10
- Artist fees will be paid to those selected
The exhibition will open with a public celebration at the Art Gallery of Guelph on May 22 and run until August 29, 2025. A series of round table conversations, artist talks, and public forums will accompany the exhibition, to be announced at a later date.
Note:
- Artwork does not need to be about the city itself
- Artists may be Guelph-based or have a connection to Guelph
- Wall-mounted work must be framed if selected
