Recent Acquisitions
Contemporary Indigenous Artists at AGG
Highlighting recent acquisitions that enrich the Art Gallery of Guelph’s collection as well as the dialogues and understanding it fosters, these works by contemporary First Nations, Metis, and Inuit artists embody intergenerational expressions of innovation and tradition, offering a compelling reflection of this cultural moment.
Each work entails an offering of stories—acts that support healing, further truth-telling, and nurture collective consciousness. Deeply rooted in relations, each also speaks to practices formed from, with, and through the land, embodying connections to place and the environment that are central to Indigenous ways of knowing. While varied in materials, techniques, and concerns, collectively these pieces express and cultivate reciprocal relationships that shape and sustain cultures and communities as inclusive, fluid, and evolving.
By sharing these works, the Art Gallery of Guelph creates space for conversation, inquiry, and renewed respect for the stories and truths they carry. More than a celebration, this exhibition is a call to engage with the enduring relationships and knowledge each artwork represents.
