Art Gallery of Guelph announces 2020 Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators Call for Submissions

The Art Gallery of Guelph (AGG) announces the call for submissions for the 2020 Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators. Founded in 2012, the Middlebrook Prize is awarded annually to an emerging Canadian curator who is under 30 with the aim to foster social innovation and curatorial excellence in Canada. Hosted and administered by the Art Gallery of Guelph, the winner is selected by a jury of arts leaders and receives a $5,000 honorarium and mentorship in the development of an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Guelph. Submissions will be accepted until January 17, 2020 at 5 pm, and the winner will be announced on March 5, 2020.

By supporting and mobilizing Canadian creative talent, the Middlebrook Prize aims to inspire positive social change in an era of ongoing and unprecedented economic, environmental, social, and cultural challenges. “The Middlebrook Prize has a powerful impact for not only the applicants, but the cultural sector more broadly,” says AGG Director Shauna McCabe, “Supporting young professionals at a critical point in their careers, the recipients are among the country’s best and brightest emerging curators with a clear sense of the transformative potential of the arts.”

The 2020 Middlebrook Prize jury is composed of Dr. Julie Crooks (Associate Curator of Photography, Art Gallery of Ontario), Sally Frater (Curator of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Guelph), and Dr. Lisa Volpe (Associate Curator of Photography, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston).
