Be a part of transforming the gallery this fall! Community is central to Justin Favela’s art practice and the public is invited to join the visiting artist to participate in a collaborative workshop and contribute to murals that will be part of Favela’s vibrant large-scale installation, Entrelazados, on view this fall in the vaulted two-storey space of the Art Gallery of Guelph. At the core of Favela’s work is an exploration of his own intersecting identities as a Guatemalan-Mexican-American artist, adapting and repurposing traditional Mexican or Latin American craft practices, particularly cartoneria or piñata making. Join us for an afternoon of artmaking and be part of the vivid designs that Favela is creating using everyday materials like paper and glue. All are welcome; no experience necessary. Children and youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
