Explore the vivid paintings and symbol-rich stories of Anishinaabe artist Richard Bedwash presented this summer in the exhibition, Yours in Native Spirit. This conversational walkthrough with co-curators Shauna McCabe and Colinda Clyne explores the connection between Bedwash’s life experiences and the community of Guelph. Deeply impacted by the colonialism of incarceration from his experiences of residential school to his term in the Guelph Correctional Centre, Bedwash’s expressive paintings represent a reclamation of knowledge, drawing on traditional stories and oral histories that he was intent on preserving and passing on. All are welcome; no registration required.
