Gifts of Art
The Art Gallery of Guelph’s primary collecting interests include both historical and contemporary works of art in the following areas: Inuit art, Indigenous art, and Canadian art. If you are interested in proposing a donation, please fill out and return the form above in person or email to info@artgalleryofguelph.ca. Donations of works of art to Art Gallery go through a very considered process: artworks are assessed to ensure they adhere to condition standards, complement our existing collection and address our collecting mandate. Decisions also take into consideration need, restrictions, cost, maintenance, delivery, storage availability, and other pertinent factors.
Depending on the donor’s circumstances, a gift of art, if accepted, may entitle that donor to a current income tax deduction. The Art Gallery of Guelph urges any donor considering a gift of art to consult with their tax adviser before making such a gift. Once a donation proposal is approved, it is the donor’s responsibility to provide, at the donor’s expense, an appraisal by a qualified, independent appraiser for gifts-in-kind valued over $1,000. Appraisals must be current (no older than 60 days) in order to substantiate the fair market value of items donated.
