Make-a-thon
Calling makers of all ages and stages! Join us at the Art Gallery of Guelph for an afternoon of creative activity using the simplest of materials: paper, glue, and scissors. Projects are inspired by the artwork currently on view by artist Justin Favela who uses everyday materials to ingeniously to “make something out of nothing,” as he describes it, producing his distinctive mash-ups of traditional and popular culture. Drop in between 1 – 5 pm for as long as you like to make creative curios and magnificent masterpieces to take home, and contribute to collective community cut paper banners (papel picado) and murals that will be displayed at the gallery. Learn more about traditional and contemporary paper art practices from Latin America during Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month, an opportunity to recognize the cultures and contributions of these communities that have indelibly enriched our collective experiences.
The AGG Make-a-thon is ideal for everyone, from beginners and families to established artists. All materials are provided; no experience necessary. Participants 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult for supervision and support. Bring your curiosity and explore your creative inspiration!
This program is presented with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
